Strong bones love to dance!
The National Osteoporosis Society runs a dance programme called Boogie For Your Bones. TV dance judge Craig Revel Horwood has joined forces with Dr Miriam Stoppard to create the Boogie For Your Bones dance workout.
Bones need regular weight-bearing exercise to grow stronger. Weight-bearing exercise means any kind of physical activity where you are supporting the weight of your own body: jogging, aerobics, tennis, dancing and walking. Our Boogie For Your Bones dance workout provides an exciting way to build strong bones. You can try this workout in your school.
We have lots of resources at the bottom of this page which will help you. The Dance Plan Poster shows you some of the simple steps to try first. Once you are comfortable with one of the steps on the plan, move on to the next and slowly build up a routine. Why not try a little salsa with the 'Thriller' move sprinkled on top for added fun! There is also a video of the whole dance to watch and a breakdown of the moves. If you want to try the whole dance, there is a Dance Plan which shows you all of the steps. Just click on the links at the bottom of the page.
Fundraising
Could you hold a Boogie For Your Bones dance event and invite parents, families and friends to come and watch your performance? Charge each person a set entry fee and you can provide them with drinks and nibbles. Each class can perform a dance based on the Craig Revel Horwood steps before the final routine is performed in front of your live audience. We will provide you with a full step by step guide of how to organise your dance show with risk assessment check list, template letters to parents, posters, invitations and stickers for all your pupils.
