All about Bones4Life.
About this site
The site has been designed to promote the teaching and learning of bone health for 7-10 year olds. There are also activities that can easily be adapted for a younger audience.
The site is divided into two sections. One is designed for adults and hosts a variety of resources to enhance teaching and learning of bone health. The second section is for children and provides interactive games to enhance their learning of bone health. The site is designed to be used in school but we are hoping that the children will enjoy it so much they will choose to play on it at home.
Adult section
The adult site is host to a variety of resources accessed using the navigation buttons at the top of the page.
Curriculum themes
These documents give a selection of possible ways of integrating bone health into the curriculum at Key Stage 2 showing links across subject areas.
Learning Activities
This section houses all the planning documents for lessons, assemblies and family activities. Each lesson plan has a task sheet that can be given to children as they work in groups. The task sheets can be found in the Resource Library. The activities are designed to be used as either whole class or part of a carrousel of activities.
The family activities are designed for adults working with families such as Parent Support Advisors, Learning Mentors and After School Club Coordinators.
Resource Library
The Resource Library hosts all the extra resources that adults can use to support and motivate the children to learn. They include video clips to stimulate discussion and engage children's interest. Photos that children can use for display purposes as well as stimulating group discussion. They could also be made available for children to use when creating posters and leaflets.
The task sheets are linked to each lesson plan. They are designed to be given to each group of children and show success criteria for each activity.
Fact sheets are designed to support collaborative group work. They are designed for a variety of abilities to enable the teacher to choose those most relevant to their class.
The Resource list provides teachers and other adults with a variety of suggestions for further web sites and physical resources that could support their teaching.
The music is an extra resource to enhance the learning experience of the children and can be used to accompany Dance / Movement lessons.
The PowerPoint presentations are designed to stimulate discussion and provide initial input at the beginning of a topic.
The Quiz appears on both sections of the site as it has two purposes. The first is to provide an assessment tool for the teacher at the end of their module of work. The second but equally important purpose is for children to use the quiz to learn the facts about bone health in a fun interactive way. They can compete with themselves as they aim to get a high score.
